Every Cyclist Should Do This: Pre-Ride Inspection

A pre-ride inspection is essential to ensure your bike is safe and ready for your ride. This is something every cyclist should be doing.

• Tire Pressure: Use a pump to ensure your tires are inflated to the recommended PSI (Min and Max typically printed on the sidewall).
• Tire Condition: Look for any cuts, cracks, or embedded debris.
• Wheels: Spin them to ensure they are true (no wobbling) and that the axles are properly aligned and tightened.

• Brake Pads: Make sure they aren’t excessively worn and are aligned correctly.
• Levers: Squeeze them to check for proper tension and ensure they fully engage.

• Shifting: Shift through all gears to ensure they are smooth and responsive.

• Bolts: Check that all critical bolts (stem, handlebars, cranks) are tight but not overtightened.
• Handlebars and Saddle: Ensure they’re secure and adjusted to your preferred position.

• Suspension: Compress your fork and rear shock to ensure smooth operation and check for leaks. (If applicable)

• Bounce Test: Gently bounce the bike on the ground to listen for loose parts.
• Ride Test: Take a quick ride to ensure everything feels right and operates smoothly.

Performing these checks before every ride will help you avoid surprises on the trail or road.
